Black-Owned Businesses in Tampa

Alright, it’s time to get real... have you been maintaining that small, Black-owned business shopping fever that was ignited in all of us last summer?

Last June, Black-owned businesses saw a surge in support as people started spending with purpose. But like most things, that trend has fallen off, and a lot of us have returned to the comfort of big box stores.

And if you haven’t, I’m honestly really proud of you. Personally, I could be doing more to put my money where my community is. However, I do still try to find ways to purchase my favorite body oils, face moisturizers, loc products, and of course, spiritual goods from Black-owned businesses in Tampa.

Here are some of my favorite Tampa Black-owned businesses:

Black-Owned Beauty Businesses

Body Butters by Design (@bodybuttersbydesign)

I found her at Yogifest in 2019. She sells handmade body oils, butters, linen and room sprays, etc. My favorite scent is “Lust.”

Sacred Crowns (@sacredcrowns)

This is where I go for all my retwists. I love Duafe’s energy. She also specializes in herbal hair products and individualized herbal tea blends that benefit you from the inside out.

Marvelous Hair & Beauty (@marveloushair.beauty)

She is another loctitian in Tampa with a line of oils I love! You can find her at Studio Ci Salon.

Tiffany Stylez & Alluring Hair Room (@tiffanystylez | @alluringhairroom)

Tiffany specializes in Bridal hair and makes sure all of her clients feel like queens on their special day. She also has her own line of hair to add to her specialty. Not to mention, she’s always finding a way to uplift other women and businesses!

A Kweendom’s Beauty (@_a.kweendoms.beauty)

They make handmade African-inspired soaps, body butters, massage bars, etc. I personally use the Coconut Whipped Body Butter made with mango and shea butters! It has lasted so long, and it makes my skin absolutely glow.

Salon Brazyl (@salonbrazyl)

Tish is a master at all things hair, but recently her specialty/interest has moved toward natural hair care. She specializes in wash and gos, braid outs, twist outs, silk presses that allow you to maintain your curl pattern, and overall hair education for her clients. If you’re looking to do the big chop or transition your hair in the healthiest way possible, she’s your girl!

Black-Owned Clothing Brands

Shop Soul Hippie (@shopsoulhippie)

Her curated selection of dresses, rompers, sets, and clothing add a colorful, bold energy to your closet.

Hippie Hoodwitch (@hippiehoodwitch)

Lenore Annell is one of the coolest women I’ve ever spoken with, and their business is even cooler. I would call her more of a style brand, as she doesn’t sell clothes. In her words, “it’s just the shit I like.” You’ve probably seen my “Stoner Glasses” in carnelian. You’ll also find peace holders, crowns, earrings, etc.

Closet of Classè (@closetofclasse)

This Black-owned Tampa thrift store offers all the looks you need for a night out at an amazing price. Check out some of my best thrift finds here.

Black-Owned Tampa Restaurants

My Hungry Vegan (@my_hungry_vegan)

You can find delicious vegan food every Saturday at Meditative Ybor from 12 to 4. And you can follow them on Instagram to keep up with their pop-ups around the city. I’ve personally tried the tacos, and they were giving what they needed to GAVE!

Lorna’s One Stop Jerk Center

Okay, this is one of the only places in Tampa where oxtails are still affordable! Plus, they have so many sides and a great lunch special.

Cake Drip (@cakedriphydepark)

Cake Drip is a hands-on experience in Hyde Park where you make your own gourmet chocolate bar. Not to mention, it has so many pic-worthy opportunities.

Sweet Mamas (@sweetmamastampa)

Sweet Mama's Picture-min.jpg

Tampa’s first mobile soft-serve ice cream place. All the desserts are absolutely delicious. Read my review here.

Jon’s Gourmet Nutrition

Jon’s Gourmet Nutrition on Busch Blvd. specializes in healthy meal prep options, spreads, and dips. You can also stop in to grab and go. The spiked beveraginos available on certain occasions are my personal favorite.

Black-Owned Health & Wellness Spaces

Smoken Yoga Bae (@smokenyogabae)

These all-level sessions enhance your yoga experience with ancient herbal practices. She offers both private and group classes, as well as special events.

813 Nutrition (@813nutrition)

813 Nutrition in Temple Terrace offers shakes, teas, fitness classes, and all-around motivation to get after your goals.

Apex Performance (@theapexperf)

Apex Performance provides personal training and group fitness classes with circuit-style workouts. It even won Best Gym in Creative Loafing’s 2020 Best of the Bay competition. Try your first class with them for free!

CPRU

If you want your CPR certification in a way that is engaging, CPRU provides amazing, informative classes.

Black Tampa Artists

Nick Davis (@ndartlife)

Nick Davis is a Digital Artist best known for his series “Black is Beautiful.” He is currently showing at the Five Deuces Galleria in St. Pete if you want to view his art.

Queen Tuft (@queentuft)

These rugs are definitely art. Jamie Bullock’s handmade rugs feature everything from pop culture images to personalized logos.

RememberWynnFLA

RememberWynnFLA specializes in photography and videography. She shoots everything from video promos and BTS content to graduation, lifestyle, and special occasion photos.

You probably don’t realize how switching out some of your everyday products with Black-owned options can make a world of difference to small business owners and gives purpose to every purchase. And that impact only grows as you spread the news to your friends. Plus, it’ll make a world of difference to your routine — trust me!
