Sweet Mama’s Tampa Ice Cream Review
I scream for ice cream — and let’s be real, we all scream for ice cream.
So, I’m yelling from the top of my lungs about the newest ice cream spot located on N Franklin St, Sweet Mama’s Tampa!
This Black-owned, mobile soft-serve ice cream spot has everything you need to satisfy your sweet tooth — from cookies and brownies to shakes, sundaes, and delicious cones — all for an affordable price.
For now, it’s situated in the lot across from Hidden Springs Ale Works. The artificial grass and wooden bistro tables add to the charm of this mobile stand. Not to mention, they have corn hole, which was the perfect jungle gym for little ones during my visit!
And the ice cream? Absolutely delicious — thick and sweet, without being overwhelming. Paired with a cinnamon-y “fancy” waffle cone, it’s a great treat for the upcoming summer days. I kept it simple with vanilla soft serve in one of their fancy cones (chocolate dipped with sprinkles).
Full disclosure, in the heat, this soft serve gets a little melt-y (like most ice cream). So, be prepared for sticky hands!
I know, I know... you may be asking yourself: another Tampa ice cream spot?
Well, Sweet Mama’s Ice Cream Tampa is not your average joint. Inspired by the goal to bring change to the Black community in Tampa, the owner, Akwi Njoh, built Sweet Mama’s to serve surrounding neighborhoods by keeping the Black dollar local and fostering a greater sense of community.
“One thing I remember from my first job was the joy & togetherness a good ice cream outing brought to people, so our goal is to create that all over Tampa,” Njoh said.
