8 Brooklyn Coffee Shops to WFH

My most productive work days are spent in coffee shops. I don’t know if there’s science behind it, but there’s something about working in public that makes scrolling for hours feel taboo. Plus, I think a lot of people could agree, and tbh, that’s enough for me. Thankfully, Brooklyn is buzzing with coffee shops to work in.

Check out these laptop-friendly coffee shops around Flatbush, Crown Heights, and Prospect Lefferts Gardens on your next wfh day.

1. Miss Barb’s

1038 Nostrand Ave, Brooklyn, NY 11225

Flatbush’s newest coffee shop might be one of my favorites. Miss Barb’s not only has a cute aesthetic, but the owners are also really sweet. Like the spot is named after his mom—how cute is that?

They serve up classic cafe drinks and a selection of pastries, but if you’re looking for lunch, you may have to venture outside. There are plenty of outlets along the built-in benches and free password-protected wifi, so you could work there for hours.

Hours: It’s open every day from 8am to 4pm. Starting in late August, they’ll also be open as a bar from 5pm-late.

2. Hamlet Coffee Company

465 Rogers Ave #1, Brooklyn, NY 11225

Located in Prospect Lefferts Garden, Hamlet is my old faithful Brooklyn coffee shop to work in. I’m not the only one who loves this place. Depending on when you go, it can be hard to find a seat. Fortunately, people are pretty open to splitting a table if you go up and ask. Connect to their password-protected wifi and work away.

Hours: They are open every day from 7am-5pm.

3. Lips Cafe

Lips is a Flatbush staple. Serving up the most delicious hot chocolate (I think cardamom is the secret), coffee, lemonades, and delicious Caribbean food. There’s plenty of seating, free wifi, enough access to outlets, and good vibes.

As a community space, there are also events throughout the week hosted by various groups around Brooklyn, like Boozee Bar, SociaLight Social Club Bingo and Pass the Aux events, and more.

Hours: They’re open Monday thru Saturday from 8am to 8pm and Sundays from 9am-6pm.

4. PLG Coffee House and Tavern

499 Rogers Ave, Brooklyn, NY 11225

I’ve never watched Friends, but this coffee shop is what I assume Central Perk felt like on a regular day when the gang wasn’t terrorizing the people with their antics. This is more of a cafe than a coffee shop, so there are a lot of food options and even smoothies.

They also have free wifi! Unfortunately, plugging into an outlet can feel like a struggle depending on where you’re sitting. I suggest going fully charged if you can!

Hours:

  • Mon-Fri: 7am-5pm

  • Sat: 8am-4pm

  • Sun: 9am-4pm

5. Furman’s Coffee

547 Nostrand Ave, Brooklyn, NY 11216

Furman’s is one of the Brooklyn coffee shops open later than most others. Unfortunately, they only have the LinkNYC wifi, so if you’re overly cautious like me, you might end up working off of your hotspot.

What they do have is a great mocha latte and a bangin’ sausage, egg, and cheese. There’s also a backyard area that’s perfect to chat on a lovely day.

Hours: They are open every day from 7am-7pm.

6. LoveLane

674 Nostrand Ave, Brooklyn, NY 11216

I spotted LoveLane on Nostrand Ave., and it was quite the unsuspecting surprise. At first glance, it seems tiny, with only a small bar with two stools in the main area. However, upstairs there are a few tables and a huge observer window where you can watch Nostrand Ave pass you by. The playlist is also pretty great. There is free wifi and standard drinks, plus a few pastries.

Hours:

  • Sun: 9am-4pm

  • Mon: 8am-4pm

  • Tues-Fri: 7am-5pm

  • Sat: 8am-4pm

7. Coffee Uplifts People

329 Gates Ave, Brooklyn, NY 11216

When it comes to this part of Bedford Ave, you have your pick of coffee shops. I was on my way to Playgrounds one day, when I switched gears for Coffee Uplifts People (CUP). This place feels huge and extremely well lit, with its 360° floor-to-ceiling windows. I really love the layout and design, and I’ve never had a problem getting a seat.

Their menu is expansive, including a variety of sandwiches, teas, and coffee. However, it is one of the pricier options on this list. Even still, the free wifi and open feel keeps me coming back.

Hours: They’re open Monday thru Friday from 7am-5pm and Saturday and Sunday from 8am-4pm.

8. Kingstown Cafe & Wine Bar

114 Rogers Ave, Brooklyn, NY 11216

Another cafe-wine bar hybrid, Kingstown is a solid place to work until about 5pm, when they change to a laptop-free zone and wine bar. I typically work from here when I want to go to Ras Plant-Based which is a few blocks over.

Hours:

  • Mon-Wed: 8am-7pm

  • Thurs-Sat: 8am-9pm

  • Sun: 8am-8pm
