Get to Know Me! 5 “Fun” Facts
Hey there, I’m Errica (also known as Elizabeth when I become my alter ego), and I write — not only as a full-time content writer but also as a Black Tampa blogger. I hope to share more about my likes, dislikes and opinions on various topics – as I often do unprompted anyway. And I hope that you find a laugh, thought or tear while reading.
While I intend to share more about all things everything later… here are 5 things about me to get us started:
I’m not a Tampa native.
Even though I am a Black Tampa blogger. I’m not technically from Tampa, but I am of Tampa. Originally, I’m from a town called Wauchula, which is an hour and a half south… and a little to the left of Tampa. But because I’ve lived here for more than half of my life (during most of my formative years and all the years that I can actually remember), I consider myself a full-blown Tampanian (Tampan?).
I don’t have any hobbies.
Wait, what? A self-proclaimed blogger doesn’t have any hobbies? Like, not even blogging? I hate to admit it: 1. Because it makes me feel boring and 2. It makes it so hard to keep up conversation on the dating apps – but alas, I have no “hobbies.”
But c’mon, after slaving away for 8 hours as a corporate America toy soldier, it’s hard to find time to invest in hobbies. So, I haven’t found mine. Although, if binge-watching Netflix, hulu and amazon prime video can be considered a hobby, then I’d say I’m set. Admittedly, I have dabbled in yoga and crocheting (I have a very thin sliver of a blanket to prove it), but nothing stuck. Instead, I prefer indulging in good food, great drinks, relaxing spa days and my full at-home skin care routine.
3. I’m on a health and weight loss journey.
Just 4 years ago, I was pushing 300 pounds. And while I was fabulous as always, my outside didn’t reflect how I felt inside. So, back in 2017 (for the love of color guard… lol), I joined a drum corps and spent 12 hours a day in the sun spinning with my closest friends. I dropped over 50 pounds. And the next summer, I went back, where I lost 40 more. Ever since, I’ve been working to maintain and hopefully lose more. And while I’ve gained some back, I still look great right now.
4. I’m obsessed with shopping… just not full price or online
I don’t do online shopping, which almost feels like swearing in today’s world, but I just can’t get down with it. Consider this, how many times have you ordered something, and it turns out to be the wrong size, color, fabric, etc.? Not to mention, the sheer amount of time you’re left waiting for your package to arrive. And don’t get me started on how hard it is to return items. It’s ALL. TOO. MUCH.
And yes, there are some good steals online. But you know where else there are good deals? At the best Tampa thrift stores! Plato’s. Curv. Target clearance section… which are famously where I get most of my looks. And as Bob the Drag Queen said in her hit song Purse First, “Why pay more when you could pay less?”
5. I NEED to travel outside the U.S.
So, I’ve visited a handful of states, and there’s always more to explore, but I’ve got wanderlust for international travel HEAVY. I’ve done a cruise and a few Honduran mission trips, but I want to go to Europe and utilizer le Français que j’apprends dans l’ecole (okay, but don’t come for me if that’s wrong… it’s been 6 years).
So, that’s it for now, and if I haven’t sent you off rolling your eyes and swearing to never visit my site again, then there’s lots more where this came from. I’ve hit on all the high points for my blog: Tampa bay, happy hours (which take the place of any hobby I could ever have), health, shopping (on a budget), and traveling.
